deciding to stay home for my first year of college, to save money and to transfer to a prestigious university, was probably one of the worst decisions i have ever made. i’ve never felt so trapped. i can’t grow here. my friends and family have these preconceived notions of who i am and who i am not. well what if i’m sick of being that person? i need and want change. i want to go somewhere where i don’t know anyone.

i used to laugh at people on the real world when they would say, “i’m just coming here to find out who i am.” i would think to myself, “how the fuck could you not know who you are.” but i finally understand. i’m almost 19 and i don’t know who i am. am i an extrovert or an introvert? am i easygoing or am i an uptight bitch? am i intelligent or stupid? i have no idea, but i want to find out. and preferably as soon as possible.

but what if i’m naively thinking that moving to a new, foreign place will solve all my problems? what if they accentuate my problems? what if my questions aren’t answered?

i just want to blossom already.

I made that same decision and lived at home all the way through college. Subsequently I still feel like I have the emotional maturity of a junior high kid. Get out there, face the adversity, the beauty, the great unknown and you will discover yourself. Should you get knocked down by the experience, I’m sure you would be welcomed back with open arms should you choose to return, but I think you’ll find that you like the big bad world better. I think the most important decisions we must make are the ones that scare us inside through and through, because there really is no decision, there is only fear. You can do it.
